LETTER FROM ALICE IN DULZURA
11-7-07
= a personal birthday translation for Robin Brailsford =
Here I am at the top of a mountain,
Kuchama, Kuchama.
And again I've no idea how I did arrive here.
Is that my prize?
The environment looks yellow, dry.
If I found enough water, I would like to hose
the landscape one day, and find out what would
flourish out of it.
Down in the valley windstorms are blowing
clouds of dust high up in the air.
Dust devils they call them.
Every now and then I hear the sound of an airplane.
It could be something different, because I do not really know if they
have airplanes here at planet Dulzura.
But they do have holy places, holy mountains, holy rivers.

On the other side there are neighbors.
Monastics that are roasting themselves on top of a hill,
while simultaneously uplifting their souls.
Maybe the idea behind this all is that because of the heath
their souls can rise more easily?
And/or that their souls become lighter because of the draught?
In fact, that would really interest me.
Would my soul be at home sooner if I became lighter myself?

Somewhat further they seem to keep themselves busy with emptying rifles.
A constant stream of shots is blowing holes in the wind.
From here I cannot see who they are and what they look like.
They might as well be invisible and in that case the shots might be their way to materialize
themselves: \'I shoot so I am\'.
In the distance cars are coming and going constantly: big ones, small ones, green ones, white ones. Some have turned on big, red alarms. In that case, something serious has happened.
From where I am, they all look tiny.

The Ick (with \'CK\') and the Wobin are quite nice to me.
Because they are rather active it was hard to understand in the beginning what exactly they were doing.
But in the meantime I have found out what it: They are \'image-catchers\'.
I have never met \'image-catchers\' before, so they can make me believe anything.
When the time is right - and only they know when that is - they climb the holy Kuchama with the two of them.
The Ick (with \'CK\') always goes first, the Wobin follows. To protect themselves from the poisonous snakes that guard the mountain top, they both carry leather ankle protectors.

When the Ick (with \'CK\') and the Wobin have arrived at the top of the holy Kuchama, they pull out their sensitive antennas with which they catch the images.
Some of them I have seen in their house, but they also bring them to other places.
It seems possible to earn a lot of money with this, although I haven\'t seen anything in the neighborhood that one can buy.
On their trips they sometimes take along their family pet Sebeka.
Sebeka is a Korean albino who at night keeps the coyotes at distance.
That seems to be necessary in this place.
I thought that Koreans were more yellowish, but at Dulzura everything is different.

It\'s rather difficult to get used to this fact.
The moment you leave your house, everything is different, and nothing is simply true anymore.
You have to start all over again with adapting and considering norms, values, bedtimes, dinnertimes, food supplies, speech and signs. It is already like that when you cross the Belgium border, so imagine how it is when some creep drops you at planet Dulzura.
I don\'t know if one can still call this a prize.
But, maybe the true purpose of this prize is to experience that everything has its prize, even the winning of one.
